1.  Why must I select a court before I can file?

The Supreme Court, and each Division of the Court of Appeals, handles their own cases. The Portal needs to know which court is to receive any files being uploaded. Additionally the Portal must verify any entered case number by checking with the entered court to ensure that it exists. Additionally filing options available for the Supreme Court differs from filing options available for the Court of Appeals.

2.  How do I know which option to select under Start a New Case?

If you are unfamiliar with the business of the court and do not know which option to select, please review the Appellate Case Processing Model and the Washington State Court Rules on Appeal.

3.  Why do I have to enter a case number?

In most instances, before documents can be accepted via the Portal case information must be entered and verified. This is done to ensure that uploaded documents are associated with the correct case.

4.  When I enter a case number, do I have to enter the dashes?

No. The dashes are not required.

5.  Can I use an Odyssey Case Number?

Yes. The eFiling Portal will accept both the legacy SCOMIS/JIS case number as well as the Odyssey Case Number.
